Building Character of Persistence – CLICK TO COMMENT

By Isaac Shalom  My goal is to be a famous author when I grow up. The problem is I am a terrible writer and I have a stage fright. I went to perform I got stage fright and froze up. However, even though I froze up, I refused to give up. I kept performing regardless of my stage fright until I got better. I learned from my mistakes that I had to practice even more.

By Shayna Spitzer  Once I was learning how to rip stick. My friend taught me and she was an expert at it. She taught me step by step. So, I tried and I wasn’t balanced enough and I fell straight off into the street. I was thinking, “Would I ever learn?” I didn’t have faith in myself. I tried again and didn’t even make a bit I fell right off. The way she taught me looked easy, but it wasn’t. But, I thought to myself, I’m not giving up. I’m better now at it. I’ll never give up. And slowly but surely I got a hang of it. I got much better at it and I love to do it. Now, I am an expert at it. To tell you the truth, I am much better than my neighbor. I am so glad that I didn’t give up at this point of my life. I tried soooo hard and I fell a lot. But I got right up and never stopped.

By Andrew Stein   On my first day at my new school I tried to make friends by being nice and playing well. In our first recess I went to play basketball with the kids in my class but they didn’t include me. So, I decided to shoot on another hoop to show them how good I was, so they would include me. When they finally did let me play, I air balled my first two shots. I was so embarrassed by the looks everyone was giving me. So, I decided to start passing instead. They saw that I was good and not selfish. I learnt from that experience that it might take time to get what you want but if you are persistent, you will eventually get it.

By Joe Torkieh   In basketball game my friend missed the game’s winning shot and got embarrassed by his team and the whole crowd. He went home that day and he felt miserable. He never wanted to play the game again. I went over to him and told him, “Don’t worry. Even the best basketball players miss shots. Don’t give up, if you try and try you can become the best basketball player. That’s how basketball players become basketball players.” He took my words and became the best basketball player. The lesson is to never give up. If you give up, you will never become successful.
